Ah. the Book of Job

Posted in Uncategorized on September 11, 2011 by Ken

No correlation between Job and job.   Some folks have been using the two for this weekend with labor day.

Job is one of those books that is hard understand and yet simple.  Hard from how things transpired and yet simple since all that God wants from us is total dependency on Him.  I don’t pretend to know all that God does.

Job didn’t understand since he thought he did everything per God’s standard.  When asked why, I cannot answer it.  Does that bother me?

Sometimes.  But I know I am limited.  What bothers me most if what to say to others.  Why do they use these as reasons to keep God at arms length?  Do we get all answers from those we love here?  No, so why do we expect them from God?

Job.  Godly man who is pointed as very righteous.  But then as if some cosmic game is allowed to suffer so much.  More than anyone of us would ever want to experience.

Any one item that Job experienced could push us over the edge.  But Job experience some many things.

What does one do with the opening of Job?  Job was righteous and holy and God fearing.  He prayed for his kids in case they were sinning not because he knew they were sinning.  But then everything falls apart.  He loses everything.  His kids, his property, his health.  All he has left is his integrity, wife, and friends.  And God.

But how this happens causes he most problems for everyone.  God allows the devil to take everything.  Some kind of cosmic game?  We know God is holy, pure, and love.  There is no evil in God.   So does He allow this to happen to Job?

Been reading a book called Honor’s Reward by John Bevere.

Chapter 6 is called Harsh Reality and talks about whether or not a Christian can honor authority that is harsh.

So much good is done when evil is resisted.  “Evil flourishs were good men do nothing”.  How do we honor and yet resist?
