Am I a Calvinist?

I wrote this months ago at work and kept it as a draft.  I found it today and now post it.

Am I a Calvinist?

Recently I have been building my knowledge base of good, biblical teachers, blogs, churches, and websites.  This adventure has been interesting as it makes me think about what I believe in and what I know.

I have for years followed Greg Laurie of Harvest Christian Fellowship and the Harvest Crusades via radio and now via the web.  Along with Greg’s daily devotions.

I have been attending Gold Creek Community Church for about 5 years.  I felt God’s pull to attend a church to supplement my individual learning and to turn back to God.  I feel face down in the dirt and Jesus pulled me back up.  I started attending Saturday morning men’s group about 3 years ago.  I was here that I became familiar with Greg Groshel of lifechurch.tv and Steven Furtick’s Sun Stand Still. (note: I no longer follow Steven Furtick after he praised and had in his church some well known prosperity gospel preachers)

After finishing Sun Stand Still, I did some research of pastor Furtick and Elevation Church.  This led me to James MacDonald of Harvest Bible Chapel in Chicago and Mark Driscoll of Mars Hill church in Seattle.  (note: two very good and biblical and Jesus based preachers and churches)

James MacDonald had this Elephant series of discussions with pastors about a range of topics that I found refershing to hear.  Especially from pastors.  Topics have been mentioned in sermons, but never the candid talk these folks had.  The Elephant series had Furtick, Driscoll, Laurie, MacDonald, and others.

All of this got me to thinking about Calvinism and wondering how I have been taught and if I am a Calvinist.  The Gospel Coalition looks to be made up of New Calvinists which was something discussed in the Elephant series since Greg Laurie is not a Calvinist.  I think.  Or at least didn’t sign the coalition’s statement though he agreed with most of the wording.

So now to find out more about Calvinism and if my upbringing as a Presbyterian taught me Calvinism or Arminianism and what do I agree with.
