Peter Rebukes Jesus; Jesus Rebukes Peter

Matthew 16:21-23 (NKJV)
21 From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day.
22 Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “Far be it from You, Lord; this shall not happen to You!”
23 But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.”

Was this Peter being demonized?  Or was it another attempt by Satan to tempt Jesus?  Or both?

If someone you loved said he/she was going to suffer and die wouldn’t you try to immediately help them?  Mentally, emotionally, spiritually and physically?

Did Peter take Jesus aside to rebuke Him as scolding or chastising?  Or was Peter trying to help Jesus know He was not alone and that death won’t happen?

Giving God what is His

First Jesus is asked about paying taxes to Caesar than later He notes the gift a poor widow makes.

If to God what is God and to Caesar what is Caesar. The rich give to the temple out of their surplus while the widow gives out if her poverty.

Both gave back to God what was God, but only the widow gave to show dependence on God.

Giving back what is not ours should be easy, but we don’t always look at our wages as anyone else but ours. Even that which we say is God. Our wages may come from Caesar so paying the tax would giving some back, but didn’t the widow put in coins that had Caesars face?

God of the living

In Mark 12:26-27, Jesus noted that while we may think that the dead are dead, He reminded us that God is not the God of the dead, but of the living.

“I am the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob.” Note how this is present tense, not past. We may be dead by human terms, but we live on forever by God’s terms.

We all will be resurrected. I want to stand in God’s presence, and not His absence.

Feet fitted with the gospel of peace

Protection from the trials and troubles path of life’s journey.

Do we wear them at all times?
Do we always wear the same type of shoe?

Shoes are about walking and traveling. You don’t wear shoes unless you are moving.

You don’t necessarily wear shoes when swimming, unless you are on a rocky area. You don’t wear shoes at home.

Our walk can be seen in our feet. Not the literal, but in how we journey in our life and how we live. Our walk.

Who fit checks our shoes?

Serve

Jesus said that whoever wants to be become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must be a slave to all.

From a human perspective this seems contradictory as how can a servant be great? Egos are hard to put in as a servant

We all want accolades, rewards, and recognition. But those things are temporary and not fulfilling.

Being a servant and doing God’s will is very fulfilling and eternal. There is nothing as wonderful as knowing God is pleased with me and for Jesus to say well done good and faithful servant.

The Wonder of it All

“I assure you: Whoever does not welcome the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” Mark 10:15

Watching my kids grow up and the Lou and amazement on new things made me are things differently. Seeing it from their eyes made me miss when everything was new too.

And not just the wonder but the total trust in me.

Everyone needs do view God on the same light.

Nothing but prayer

In Mark 9:14-29 Jesus rebukes the unclean spirit in a boy and drives it out with a command to never enter the boy again. The disciples wanted to know why they were unable to drive out the demon. Jesus said “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer.”

All things should go to God in prayer. But there are times God’s glory is seen without prayer.

Contradiction?
